READY TO RIP

So you’ve been in town for a while. You’ve been staying in style with the Empress and the Emperor, learning from their Hierophant, maybe even fell in love, but the road is calling you. Remember you were gonna go on an awesome quest! The good news is, looks like you don’t have to leave on foot. Now that you understand opposites a little better, you can get cooperation spinning wheels the way you want.
Have you ever tried to walk across the continent you live on? If so, hit me up so I can hear about it. Probably not, though. To leave the nest and stay gone, you’re gonna need a vehicle. So what do you get? A Chariot! What’s gonna pull the Chariot? Those opposing forces we’ve been thinking about! How are we going to get them to listen? A little knowledge and a little love, in the correct amounts to the correct critter. The Chariot bears a sun and moon mark, once again, the light in all its forms, but a Chariot is just a disaster waiting to happen without a charioteer! Imagine the child of the Emperor and Empress, black and white together, understanding opposites from being opposites. The Charioteer gains empathy holding his sword by the blade. He is aware of his power and keeps it responsibly to himself. The white and black lions of the chariot forgo their wild natures, sitting patiently for command. The same way a dog ignores someone who doesn’t believe in themselves, so does the force!

VI - The Lovers

VI The Lovers
YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART

We don’t always travel alone on Tarot Road. Sometimes we find another that doesn’t complete us, but compliments us. The perfect couple sounds like one of the Hierophant’s stories. Careful when you roll your eyes, you might miss your first alchemy lesson. How do we make the right choices? Listen to the whole heart.
The Lovers are light in this world. The Sun and the Moon have lit us up longer than LED’s, Filaments, and bowls of burning animal fat combined. Bird feather or bat leather, both give flight. Logic and Intuition have their limits on their own, but when combined, reveal more complete truths. The green heart-shaped island is the heart charka these two build their nest on. On this island, the tree of life and its roots work with it’s own viney partner to prevent soul erosion. The male with his red hair and the female with her blue hair show the beginnings of the merge of fire and water within the self. WTF I’m talking about will make itself clear with later cards. For now, enjoy the things in life that go together.
VI is the Lover’s number - If we choose correctly, we open ourselves to victory when we are tested.

V The Hierophant
KNOWLEDGE AND STUDY
Now that we’ve met the Emperor, we have our plan. We try out our plan and it fails. That’s ok. Almost all plans fail. What do you do? You hit the books. Someone has learned the hard way so you don’t have to and if you’re open to this thinking, the Hierophant is ready to teach you.
This guy isn’t for everybody. First of all, he is orthodox - by the book, straight up and down. That doesn’t mean he has nothing to teach the independent mind, he’s just not interested in how you are going to do it your way, so drop it and check out a lecture. Seated between two grey pillars, he has figured out a little of the mystery of the High Priestess - the glaring opposites of black and white have come into balance. Why? so you can learn. Calm down, we can get back to the mysterious journey after we get a little knowledge of the coming terrain. ASTROLOGY WARNING: A TAURUS LIKE STUBBORNNESS. Almost levitating, the Hierophant perches on a stack of books, showing you clearly where the source of his power comes from. His staff represents ritual, which again, is not for everyone, but he will hit you with it when you stop paying attention. No curtain drawn, his temple shows the daytime sky behind him, more heights await. While some Hierophants represent the pope, I didn’t connect with the energy, so I thought a more Guru(non-charlatan), Master Yoda approach fit the world of the deck. Simple robes, simple belt, with all that knowledge as his decoration. His golden and silver keys will help you unlock both conscious and sub-conscious knowledge, so take notes.

V is the number of the Hierophant - 5 is a bump in the road after we evened everything out at 4 - time to do some research and there is probably a book for your situation.

ZANBUL IS LIVE

Zanbul is live at Zanbul.com . This is the product of three years of dedicated effort. The goal is to build a story alien to the reader, outside of time and language - the visuals are provided, but the details are up to the individual. I was inspired to do this after creating the Ellis decK and getting wonderful feedback and interpretations from fans whose insight had gone beyond what I envisioned. I wanted to give you the chance to make a story. Love it, hate it, or be baffled by it. It starts here. Due to real life, I can't afford to publish this book. To remove the worry about whether or not it was going to make me any money, I decided to put the work up to date online for free.

IV The Emperor

  • IV The Emperor
    ORDER AND RULES
Now that the Empress has us all inspired and we don’t know what to do with ourselves, this guy has a few suggestions. The Emperor hears you and asks the questions: “How much will it cost?” “Do you have a map?” “Are you organized?” This is the guy with the plan and all that success you’re trying to get. If the Empress is our nurturing Mum, the Emperor is our stern Pops.

How does the Emperor rule? He doesn’t have the available creative chi that his partner, The Empress does, but he knows how to build the circuit board that energy travels across. How? Measures and Numbers - Logic. His throne is mountains and trees, he’s not a clear-cutter, but he’s not above making things work for him. I created this card in Denver, CO, where the Sun seemed to set promptly at 4:30 every day - so the Mountains were this absolute certainty as the Sun set behind them. His orb shows awareness of the whole planet, and a staff to show his authority: “I wave this and you do the thing.” It’s like magic, but bossy. On either side of his throne are rams facing opposite directions. Warring factions? The Emperor sees tension of opposites instead, he can work with that. TRIGGER WARNING ASTROLOGY AGAIN - Rams also tie him to Aries/Mars and the masculine His golden armor represents his high station - an Emperor may start out dirt poor, but somebody with brains like these will farm gold out of that dirt. His helmet has the wings and head of the eagle (like the Empresses’ double-headed eagle) to show the big aerial picture he makes his plans from. His purple cape is the official spiritual/royal color. His matching cosmic crown shows true imperial wisdom comes from the even bigger picture, he knows he is authority, and his limitations. The single bud between the two blooming flowers shows his control over his own emotion, he may not open right up to you.

IV is the number of the Emperor - walls of a house, legs of a chair, wheels in a car, if you need it to hold steady, call this dude.

III The Empress

III The Empress
CREATIVE WILDERNESS
Whatever the Priestess reveals to us, gets us wondering, and wandering. With focus and intuition, we get feeling around and we run into what Jan Wouhuysen called “a tasty bit of alright” (Tarot Therapy 1979) our first exposure to the creative spark. We were itching to get going, and now we are nourished, but the Empress works like a good cup of coffee - you are gonna get going now, and the fool in you may not let you focus.
This lady rules you in ways you have no say. She is the wild universe. Mama Earth. The twelve stars in her antlered crown reference the pre-nasa zodiac that got the ancients going. This was her dominion over the seasons. Ever fight winter? Winter wins so you better do things in step with her dance, not yours. The flowers at every chakra point (with a gem (flower) at the third eye) is her attention her whole body. WOMEN LISTEN TO A LOT OF STUFF, DUDES, TRY IT SOME TIME. All that gut feeling the High Priestess just taught us gets a language after we meet this gal. She may teach us our yoga or tell us how to eat better because she is not sitting around the palace waiting on servants to feed her, she met us in the woods looking for fresh food and water. TRIGGER WARNING - MORE ASTROLOGY: Her shield bears the symbol of Taurus as well as Venus, love and prosperity are this woman’s calling card. Her blue hair and the waterfall both represent the water that nourishes all life.

III is the number of the Empress. This fertile number is the product of the previous numbers and will give you enough legs for an easel or a tripod for your creative endeavors.

II The High Priestess

II The High Priestess
LISTEN FOR IT
After the Magician’s show, you are a little smarter, minus a penny or two. You haven’t graduated, but you are at least ready to learn. Sooner or later, you find a noble teacher. They probably know a LOT you don’t know. Including exactly how much of it you need to know and how much you don’t. She has the wisdom of what you will do with the information she gives you.
In the first reading I received, I remember this card very clearly. It was from the Aquarian Deck, and the art for the High Priestess was dee-licious! I involuntarily blurted out “I want one!” I didn’t know if that meant I wanted the deck, or the priestess, or both. She stuns us that way when we meet her. She arrests our attention with sheer curiosity. This is our beginning of the awareness of the relationship of the opposites. Sitting between pillars of black and white on a grey slab - she studies the experience of these dualities. She represents transformation from many angles. The Snake sheds skin to grow. The Butterfly comes from the dissolution of the caterpillar. She keeps the Moon half drawn behind her curtain, because it transforms us as well, and she is trying to teach us how to handle it. Visions, dreams, intuition, and plain old gut feelings are her classroom. “You better listen to her,” was Ashley’s advice on how to find her.
II is the number of the High Priestess. Seeing light we see Shadow, and the priestess is your first teacher in how the two play.

1 The Magician
SKILLLLLLLLLS
When you first show up in Tarot Land, you are knocked off your socks pretty quickly by anyone with more experience than you. This person is the real deal. They have mastered a lot of stuff that you are just looking into. I am pretty sure that they are going to impress the heck out of you. So we have skill, and charm, and creative willpower. A good Magician keeps the awe going.

The Yellow sky is the bright solar creative energy. Using this energy as his backdrop - we experience the show of the magician. His floating islands with living plants are part of his show - we see above him is still more to do, so this is a temporary guru at best. His cape radiates warm orange and hot red inward and outward, with a silhouette of a black cloud (or ufo, depending on what software you are running) mirrored on each side, focusing attention to the hands clasped at the magician’s heart. Two extra sets of arms hold the suits of the Tarot - the sword, rod, cup, and pentacle - showing his practice of study and understanding that give him the skill level we look at as magic. The hat and beard may be facade, their presence suggests a wisdom in secrets we have yet to partake, but could something so advertised be much of a secret?
1 is the number of the magician. You start with a 1. The magician decides it must be a wand.

COSMIC POTENTIALLLLL - When you are stuck in a traffic jam on the way to work, this is the guy skipping down the road with nowhere to go. You need that money and then you will be happy. This guy is happy by default. I started this card on a trip (that was meant to be a move) up to Denver back in 2011. I thought with my freelance clients and a laptop, I was free to move about the world an do everything in happy-go-lucky style. A month later, my bread and butter clients were out of business and I was without a car in a town covered in snow. Fool incarnate.

The Starry Sky was the open galaxy of potential and the “leave-at-night” attitude of the sly fool. The dog is everyone that can’t tell the fool a damn thing. Ask the fool how they plan to get down the cliff, through the woods, up the mountains, and off to the stars. They have no answer. All the know is they don’t wanna go backwards into the dead trees of the past.

0 is the best number for this wanderer because that is probably the bank balance they will achieve their dreams with.
